Schedule Changes
I was notified today that the Monroe Bandtastic Festival has been canceled due to a lack of participating groups. The deadline for OMEA contests on that date (10/25) has passed, and the only MSBA contest with space available is in Madison, Indiana. Therefore, that date is now open.

Our final Grease show performance will be at Fenwick on 10/24 (unless the team makes the playoffs - see below). At the Fenwick game we will be combining with the Fenwick band during Pregame for the Star Spangled Banner.
Marching Band Playoffs??
The win over Dayton Carroll has again put the Badin football team in the playoff hunt. The top 8 teams in each region make the playoffs, and Badin is currently 9th. The team needs "help" from some other teams, but the scenario is certainly possible. [The complete rankings are posted on the Blog]

Should the team make the playoffs, the Marching Band and Guard will go, too. So, for now keep you November weekends free!
Booster Meeting Wednesday
The next Music Booster meeting is Wednesday at 7:00 in the Music Room!

Corrections to 10/1 Update

1) There is NO COLOR GUARD tonight due to Ce Ce's illness and Parent-teacher Conferences

2) There is NO BUS on Saturday!  Students will need to do one of the following to make sure their uniform and equipment is at the game:

A) Take uniform and instrument home after practice on Friday, and come to the game dressed [preferred choice]

B)  Arrange for someone (a friend, perhaps) to make sure the uniform and equipment is on the trailer after practice on Friday.  [Not the best choice, but it will work].

Report time is DRESSED, EQUIPPED and READY in the stands by 6:30 PM at the stadium.  Most will need to arrive by 6:00 PM in order to change, unload, and get ready.

Marching Band / Color Guard
Here's this week's info:

1) THERE ARE NO MORE WEDNESDAY PRACTICES.
2) Thursday, Guard as usual (7:00 - 9:00)
The flags are in!!!
3) Friday, Marching Band 3:00 - 6:00
Goal: Learn drill to "We Go Together" - [march it Saturday?????], review Pregame
4) Saturday: Football vs. Dayton Carroll. FULL DRESS UNIFORM (including GREASE attire for Heather & Guard). Report to Badin at 5:45, change into uniform - bus rolls at 6:15.
Trip Reminder
The 2nd Trip payment of $140.00 was due today. If you missed it, it's okay - just send it in when you can.

Any families who are having difficulty may contact Mr. Moore. The Boosters are committed to making sure that EVERY student has the opportunity to perform in Chicago.

Also, it looks like we could still use a chaperone or 2 - especially males. If you are interested, please let us know soon!

Badin Computer Crash
The Music Office computer has been down for a week. If you sent me an email and I have not responded, it is becuase I have not received it yet. I CAN access my mail through a "back door" conduit via my home computer, but that assumes that 1) my dail-up network is functioning and 2) that I'm home to try it!

So, please bear with me. The tech folks at Badin are working on the problem.
Friday Marching Band
Right now, our schedule is as follows:
- Badin Pep Assembly at 1:50
- Marching Band rehearsal outside (if possible) 3:00 - 5:30 [Review Pregame, and 1st 3 Gerease tunes]
- 5:30 Dinner
- 6:00 - change into uniform, load up and go!
[those who have not yet been fitted will be taken care of Wed. and Thur in class]
- FULL UNIFORM! {DON'T FORGET black socks!!)
- Pregame: Regular Pregame show (Fight Song / Banner / Alma Mater / Fox / Fight Song)
- Halftime: Greased Lightnin' [march & play], Summer Nights [march & play], Born To Hand Jive [stand & play]
- approx. return to Badin 10:45
- in case of rain, parkas will be issued
**This game is for all - including Concert Band members**

And We're Off....
Wow! Another school year is off and running!

First, I would like to welcome all of our new students and parents to our Badin Music family. Please be sure to register for the email list at http://www.badinmusic.org/communication.html

This will insure that you receive all of our email updates. Also, feel free to contact me is you have any questions, comments, concerns or conflicts at any time. My email is Mmoore@mail.badinhs.org, or call my voicemail at 863-3993 ext. 236. While I cannot promise an immediate reply due to my busy Badin schedule and my travels to the elementary schools, I promise to return your message as soon as possible.

Also, I encourage everyone to keep up with events through our Music Boosters organization. The next Booster meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 10 at 7:00 in the Music Room.
Yankee Candle Sale
Students will receive information about the annual Yankee Candle sale later this week. This is an easy fundraiser that generates a very good profit for the group. All orders will be delivered before Thanksgiving, so this is a great way to start your Christmas shopping without spending gas money going to the mall!
Marching Band Stuff
Remember Marching Band practice on Friday from 3:00 to 6:00.

The game is on Saturday [this game is OPTIONAL for Concert Band members]. We will meet at the stadium at 6:30 for warm-up and the Pregame show. The game should conclude between 10:15 and 10:45 PM.

Uniform issue will come out later this week.

Also, those who will be performing at the St. John Neumann Festival on Sunday will receive directions later this week as well. We will perform between 5:00 and 5:30 PM.

Mr. Schubert will be meeting with the Marching Band percussion and other interested drummers on Thursdays after school between 3:00 and 5:30 PM beginning this week.

Booster Meeting Tonight
The first Music Booster meeting of the year is tonight at 7:00 in the Music Room. This is a great opportunity for parents to keep track of everything that is happening in Badin Music.

Also, there are still several important leadership positions with vacancies. Your help is needed, if only on a part-time basis, to keep the program moving in the right direction.

No Lessons 8/4 - 8/10
There will be no lessons or rehearsals the week of August 4 - 10. Mr. Moore will be unavailable all week.
Booster Meeting August 13
The next Music Booster meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 13 at 7:00 PM in the Music Room. Everyone is invited. Remember: we still have several open leadership positions, and the program does not work without your support!

Information regarding honor ensembles, college auditions, and scholarships is posted on our blog as the info is received. Current postings include information about a new All-Catholic Honor Band sponsored by Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. Stay informed!
Color Guard Camp
Color Guard Camp has begun! It's not too late for new members to join. No experience is necessary. Camp continues every day from 8:00 am until Noon at Badin.
Competition Decision Time
It's time to make final decisions about participation in the Competition Marching Band. If you intend to participate in the competition group, please email Mr. Moore NO LATER THAN August 8. The sooner the roster is set, the sooner we can begin working on the visual parts of the competition program.

Ohio Dominican Band Opportunities

Ohio Dominican University in Columbus has announced several opportunities for high school band members.  First is the opportunity to participate in the ODU Marching Band as a "Panther For A Day" on October 11, 2008.  (Participants will be exempt from any Badin marching band performances on that date).  Follow the link above for more information.

Also, ODU will be hosting an All-Catholic High School Honor Band on January 30 and January 31, 2009.  Follow the link above for an application, or see Mr. Moore for more details.

Not Much News...
It's summertime, so there's not much news to report. The Badin schedule matrix is ALMOST finished. As soon as it is ready, I can meet with the elementary schools to schedule their band classes for this year.

I will be at Badin every Monday from 8:00 - 4:00 except for lunch from 11:45 - 1:30 if you need to see me for anything. Also, remember to email me if you would like a private lesson time! I will also be at Badin on other days, but that will change week-by-week.
Summer Band
Only a handful of players responded to the call for Summer Band. With so few interested, and with gas prices as they are, we will put the summer group on hold for this year.
Web Page Re-Vamp
The Badin Music page is currently under re-construction. The new version should be easier to read and navigate. In the meantime, some pages have the "new" look while others are unchanged. Some items may be in a different location than before.
Color Guard Camp
Color Guard Camp is scheduled for July 21-25 from 8:00 am until Noon. There is no charge for camp. If you know of any potential members, have them come out. No prior experience is necessary!

July 4 Parade Final Instructions

July 4 Parade – Final Instructions

 

Hello Everyone!  Here are the final instructions for tomorrow’s parade:

 

-         Trailer will leave Badin between 12:15 and 1:00.  If you need to get something from the Music Room, or if you need a ride to the Fairgrounds, be there before then!

-         Report to the Fairgrounds at 1:00.  Look for the trailer when you arrive.  Large instruments, extra music, water, and rain ponchos are already packed.

-         Parade begins at 2:00 and ends at the Butler County Courthouse.  You will be free to go after the trailer is loaded.

-         Remember your green Badin polo, khaki shorts, white socks and clean, comfortable tennis shoes.  If you have an extra shirt or two at home, please bring it for our new members!

And We're Off...
The 2008-09 Marching Band season has begun! Thanks to all who came out to today's rehearsal, and especially those who stayed after for the trailer cleaning. The next rehearsal is Thursday, 9:00 am until Noon. Any veteran marchers who cannot make it to rehearsal but intend to march on Friday please email me ASAP.

Also, any veterans who have extra band polos, or whose shirt is too small and needs an upgrade, please bring your shirts to rehearsal on Thursday.

I'm looking forward to a great season, and I hope you are, too!

On a side-note, I realized today that this is my 21st year of teaching marching band! Now I feel old!
