Badin Music Notes

November 19, 2008Keeping Badin's Music Families In Tune!
Santa Parade Info:
Friday: 3rd Period, rehearse Jazzy Old St. Nick, load large instruments [and uniforms of those who will show up early on Sat and change there] on trailer. Everyone else: take equipment AND UNIFORMS home after school.

Saturday: Report to Fitton Center NO LATER THAN 8:30 AM. If your plan is to change there, be there by 8:15!! There are NO CHANGING FACILITIES there, so you will have to change in the trailer (in the cold). The trailer will stay behind at the Fitton Center for re-loading after the parade.

9:00: Parade step-off. Route (as of today) is Fitton Center, then 1 block East, 1 block south, 1 block east, and 2 blocks north to Courthouse. After parade, walk back to trailer to load and leave. Estimated dismiss time: 9:20 AM.

Due to the small nature of the event, there should be PLENTY of parking at or near the Fitton Center for all involved. Remember: You will need your own transportation!!!

Remember marching shoes and black socks. Santa hats will be provided!

Band and chorus photos are needed for the yearbook. These can be performance photos, or just "goofing off" shots. Either way, send photos to Mr. Moore or Anita Randrianatoanina for consideration for the yearbook. Digital photos must be from a 3.2 megapixel or higher camera for yearbook publishing.

Music Update 10/20/08

Badin Music Notes

October 20, 2008Keeping Badin's Music Families In Tune!
Playoff Picture A Bit Clearer
With Saturday's win, the playoff picture for Badin football looks like this:

1) "If they win, they're in." - a win over Fenwick guarantees a playoff spot. With a loss, a spot is possible but not likely.

2) "Far, Farther & Farthest" - possible 1st round game locations include Clinton-Massie (far), Jonathan Alder in Plain City (farther), or Coldwater (farthest). Much will depend on the outcome of the Clinton-Massie / Jonathan Alder game on Friday night, as well as the results of Wyoming's game.

Report times and meal plans will be announced next Monday as soon as the game site is confirmed. In any case, all Badin playoff games will take place on Fridays.
Drumline Resumes Thursday - Color Guard On Hold
Drumline / Winter Percussion rehearsals will resume on Thursday from 3:00 - 5:30. Thursday-evening Color Guard rehearsals are on hold until after Thanksgiving.
Don't Forget Parky's Farm and Open House!

Music Update 10/13/08

Badin Music Notes

October 13, 2008Keeping Badin's Music Families In Tune!
Playoff Picture Slightly Clearer
After Friday's win vs. Roger Bacon, the playoff picture looks like this:

- Badin is currently ranked 9th in the Region
- the top 8 teams qualify for playoffs
- it is mathematically possible for Badin to LOSE BOTH remaining games and still make the playoffs
- it is mathematically possible for Badin to WIN BOTH remaining games and still NOT make the playoffs
- if Badin qualifies, the team will be ranked no higher than 8th

So, IF the team qualifies, the schedule is:
- Friday, October 31 (Yes, it's Halloween, kids!)team #8 [possibly Badin] Regional Quarterfinal Game - 7:30 kickoff @ team #1 [currently Coldwater - you don't want to know how far away THAT is!]

Friday, November 7 - Regional Semifinals - Winner of #1/#8 game vs. Winner of #4/#5 game @ Neutral Site (probably Dayton area)7:30 PM

Friday, November 14 - Regional Finals - Winner of #1/#8/#4/#5 vs. Winner of #2/#7/#3/#6 @ Neutral Site (Probably Dayton area)

Friday, November 21 - State Semifinals - pairings TBA - @ Neutral Site (Probably Columbus Area)7:30 PM

Friday, November 28 - Division IV State Championship - 3:00 @ Fawcett Stadium - Canton, Ohio
Thursday Rehearsals Canceled
Due to the Badin early dismissal on Thursday and an event in the PFAC Thursday night, all after-school rehearsals are canceled on Thursday.
Marching Band Shortened
Due to the small number of remaining performances and limited new material to learn, Marching Band practices will end at 5:00 PM for the duration of the season.

Upcoming Calendar
Monday, 10/13: MSCB 3:30 - 5:30 PM

Tuesday, 10/14: 5th Grade Band 3:30 - 5:00 PM

Music Update 10/6/08

Badin Music Notes

October 6, 2008Keeping Badin's Music Families In Tune!
Schedule Changes
I was notified today that the Monroe Bandtastic Festival has been canceled due to a lack of participating groups. The deadline for OMEA contests on that date (10/25) has passed, and the only MSBA contest with space available is in Madison, Indiana. Therefore, that date is now open.

Our final Grease show performance will be at Fenwick on 10/24 (unless the team makes the playoffs - see below). At the Fenwick game we will be combining with the Fenwick band during Pregame for the Star Spangled Banner.
Marching Band Playoffs??
The win over Dayton Carroll has again put the Badin football team in the playoff hunt. The top 8 teams in each region make the playoffs, and Badin is currently 9th. The team needs "help" from some other teams, but the scenario is certainly possible. [The complete rankings are posted on the Blog]

Should the team make the playoffs, the Marching Band and Guard will go, too. So, for now keep you November weekends free!
Booster Meeting Wednesday
The next Music Booster meeting is Wednesday at 7:00 in the Music Room!

Corrections to 10/1 Update

1) There is NO COLOR GUARD tonight due to Ce Ce's illness and Parent-teacher Conferences

2) There is NO BUS on Saturday!  Students will need to do one of the following to make sure their uniform and equipment is at the game:

A) Take uniform and instrument home after practice on Friday, and come to the game dressed [preferred choice]

B)  Arrange for someone (a friend, perhaps) to make sure the uniform and equipment is on the trailer after practice on Friday.  [Not the best choice, but it will work].

Report time is DRESSED, EQUIPPED and READY in the stands by 6:30 PM at the stadium.  Most will need to arrive by 6:00 PM in order to change, unload, and get ready.

Badin Computer Crash
The Music Office computer has been down for a week. If you sent me an email and I have not responded, it is becuase I have not received it yet. I CAN access my mail through a "back door" conduit via my home computer, but that assumes that 1) my dail-up network is functioning and 2) that I'm home to try it!

So, please bear with me. The tech folks at Badin are working on the problem.
Friday Marching Band
Right now, our schedule is as follows:
- Badin Pep Assembly at 1:50
- Marching Band rehearsal outside (if possible) 3:00 - 5:30 [Review Pregame, and 1st 3 Gerease tunes]

First, I would like to welcome all of our new students and parents to our Badin Music family. Please be sure to register for the email list at http://www.badinmusic.org/communication.html

This will insure that you receive all of our email updates. Also, feel free to contact me is you have any questions, comments, concerns or conflicts at any time. My email is Mmoore@mail.badinhs.org, or call my voicemail at 863-3993 ext. 236. While I cannot promise an immediate reply due to my busy Badin schedule and my travels to the elementary schools, I promise to return your message as soon as possible.

Also, I encourage everyone to keep up with events through our Music Boosters organization. The next Booster meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 10 at 7:00 in the Music Room.
Yankee Candle Sale
Students will receive information about the annual Yankee Candle sale later this week. This is an easy fundraiser that generates a very good profit for the group. All orders will be delivered before Thanksgiving, so this is a great way to start your Christmas shopping without spending gas money going to the mall!
Marching Band Stuff
Remember Marching Band practice on Friday from 3:00 to 6:00.

The game is on Saturday [this game is OPTIONAL for Concert Band members]. We will meet at the stadium at 6:30 for warm-up and the Pregame show. The game should conclude between 10:15 and 10:45 PM.

Uniform issue will come out later this week.

Also, those who will be performing at the St. John Neumann Festival on Sunday will receive directions later this week as well. We will perform between 5:00 and 5:30 PM.

Mr. Moore
Drumline Rehearsals
Mr. Schubert will be meeting with the Marching Band percussion and other interested drummers on Thursdays after school between 3:00 and 5:30 PM beginning this week.

See you there!

Booster Meeting Tonight
The first Music Booster meeting of the year is tonight at 7:00 in the Music Room. This is a great opportunity for parents to keep track of everything that is happening in Badin Music.

Also, there are still several important leadership positions with vacancies. Your help is needed, if only on a part-time basis, to keep the program moving in the right direction.
